NOVEMBER 2025: Billy presented his work on bladder cancer modeling at the 2025 Society for Basic Urologic Research (SBUR) conference in Orlando. His talk showcased the lab’s innovative approaches to understanding bladder cancer progression. Great work, Billy!

OCTOBER 2025: Dr. Brault, postdoctoral fellow in the Nowak lab, has been awarded the Prostate Cancer Foundation Young Investigator Award. Congratulations, Lise! Lise attended the PCF meeting to receive her award, we like to think she accepted it with the same precision she brings to her experiments (though hopefully with fewer pipettes involved). We’re thrilled to see her outstanding work recognized!

AUGUST 2025: Luke joins the lab as our newest PhD student! A Northeastern graduate (go Huskies!), Luke is interested in cancer systems biology through the PBSB program. He claims he can code with his left hand, pipette with his right, and be at a Zoom meeting – a truly interdisciplinary approach! Welcome to the team, Luke!

JUNE 2025: T32 award for Ryan! Ryan received the prestigious T32 Training Grant in Cancer Pharmacology!

JUNE 2025: Congratulations to Francesca, who’s leaving us to start medical school at Georgetown University! She joined as a volunteer from Hunter College, became a technician, and transformed from philosophy undergrad to excellent cancer biologist. We’re incredibly proud – best of luck, Dr. Francesca-to-be!

MARCH 2025: Dr. Gargiulo successfully defended his thesis! Congratulations, Dom! As our first PhD graduate, this is a major milestone for the lab. I still remember when we first met and knew you’d do great things. Dom is now working on revisions for his manuscript. We’re incredibly proud of all his hard work and accomplishments! Dom is using the passion for models that he developed in the Nowak Lab to perform human data trials at Revalia Bio in New Haven, CT.

JANUARY 2025: Dr. Nowak has been honored with the Walter B. Wriston Research Scholar Award from WCM. Yay, Dawid!

NOVEMBER 2024: Dr. Nowak and Dr. Siepel dive into their recently published work – tracing cancer’s path, one breadcrumb at a time – check it out!

OCTOBER 2024: Congratulations to Dr. Lloyd Trotman and team on their Science paper exploring vitamin K3 as a potential prostate cancer treatment! Proud to be a co-author on this exciting work from my previous postdoctoral mentor’s lab at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. Check out the research here!

SEPTEMBER 2024: The Nowak laboratory published in Cancer Discovery! Dr. Serio, as first author, developed the EvoCaP mouse model – a CRISPR-based genetic barcoding system that tracks prostate cancer spread and reveals metastatic pathways with potential to guide future treatments. A fantastic collaboration with the Siepel laboratory!  Read more here.

SEPTEMBER 2024: Dom, Billy and Ryan presented their work at the annual Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL) conference Mechanisms & Models of Cancer.

JANUARY 2024: Dr. Nowak joins the Tri-Institutional Program in Computational Biology and Medicine (Tri-I CBM), a collaboration between Cornell University, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and The Rockefeller University. Dr. Nowak has been appointed as Assistant Professor of Computational Biology and Medicine at Weill Cornell Graduate School. We’re excited for this new chapter and the opportunities it brings for interdisciplinary collaboration!
